Meet new people. Play new games. Madison Games Day, May 30th 2009.

Matt M. McElroy (of Flames Rising and DriveThruComics.com) and Jason L Blair (designer of Little Fears) announce Madison Games Day, a ten-hour event dedicated to introducing Madison-area residents to meet new people and play new games.

Madison Games Day will take place on Saturday, May 30th 2009 at the Pizza Oven on Monona Drive. From 12p until 10p, Madison-area gamers are invited to stop in, meet local players, and try new games. A variety of games are slated for play and attendees are urged to bring their own as well. Have a game you want to try but your regular group isn't into? Bring it! Have a hankering to dust off an old favorite for one more spin? Bring it! Want to give a game you weren't sure about another shot? Bring it! There is an official event schedule but pick-up games are encouraged. If you have something you want to run or play, bring it along!

If you have games you no longer play or wish to own, bring them too! A table will be available for attendees to display copies they're looking to sell or trade.

Hello hello [Jan. 19th, 2009|09:52 pm]

I'm a gamer, fairly recently transplanted to the Madison area (as of this past August), and I've finally started craving gaming enough to go hunting for the gamer community. A little bit of google-fu, and I found you guys. You look like a fun bunch, so I thought I'd introduce myself.

Hi, I'm Gelf, and I do go by that in the real world too, at least among fellow gamers and geeks. I started gaming in college, and would be rather sad if my gaming career ended back when college did. I'm familiar with the standard set of board games (Carcassonne, Settlers, etc), and a somewhat less standard set of tabletop RPGs. In no particular order, I've played some Deliria, Exalted, assorted old World of Darkness, D20 Modern, Obsidian, and lots and lots of Shadowrun, both 3rd and 4th editions. There's probably a few others that I'm forgetting, I'd have to go through my old character sheets for a complete list. I'm also perfectly willing to learn new games and systems.

What I'd really love to find is a table top gaming group willing to take another player for a campaign. At this point, though, I'm not too picky, and I'll take just about anything I can find. One shots, board games, etc. Any suggestions for where else to put out feelers?

Games! [Dec. 8th, 2008|12:43 pm]

So, what games have you folks been playing lately?

Recently I've run a WoD game that was mostly based on Reliquary and Second Sight. That game is on break currently, but we should be getting back into the mystery soon enough.

I ran a one-shot of 3:16 - Carnage Amongst The Stars that was a blast. I'll have a review up on Flames Rising hopefully at the end of the week.

When mlvwrites is not playing Batman Lego I occasionally get in a game or two of Star Wars Battlefront 2. I realize its been out for ages, but I still have fun with it.

I was thinking this weekend might be a good time to break out Arkham Horror.

What about you?

Looking back through the activity on the madtowngotgame  group...we've really underused the hell out of this thing. I'll try and use it more often in the future.

[Current Mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

...in some old school gaming? AD&D 1st Edition or maybe AD&D 2E (sans all the additional optional rules).
What I mean by Old School is that back when we originally played D&D it was a roleplaying game...we roleplayed everything. There were no rules for non-combat conflicts aside from a very basic +/- modifier for reaction.
While we had dungeon crawls sometimes, that wasn't all there was. We played for years without a need for rules for everything under the sun.

What I'm proposing is playing in a campaign where we explore a setting, get in some sandbox adventuring and just have a good time with it.

Something pulpy and gritty would be nice.

So, did anyone go to Geek.Kon this year?

Good? Bad?

I went the first year and had an absolute terrible time, so I was wondering if it had improved any.
